Believe it can get better. Then get to work.
The Edventure Truth: “Hope without action is wishful thinking. Action without hope is exhausting.”
Two people can experience exactly the same situation and experience it completely differently, because optimism is powerful.
But optimism alone isn’t enough.
Being Pragmatically Optimistic means holding two ideas at the same time:
Things can get better and… Getting there might be difficult.
Don’t ignore the challenge. Don’t sugarcoat reality. Don’t simply hope everything will work itself out.
See the situation clearly and maintain confidence that through effort, learning and persistence, you can move forward.
Optimism provides the belief. Pragmatism provides the plan. Then you provide the action.
That’s the essence of this original element: belief that things will improve coupled with accepting the hard work required, acknowledging reality without sugarcoating it, and acting on what you can control.
This element’s Challenge Card…
Test yourself, test those around you…

If you liked this, you’ll love these elements too:
- Conscious Responsibility: Focus your energy on what you can actually influence.
- Power of Perspective: See challenges from a more useful angle.
- Accountable to Future You: Keep taking action even when the payoff isn’t immediate.
Until then #BeEdventurous
